Kindergarten is different and special for many reasons but especially because it’s many children's first experience with intentional reading instruction. We will take a fresh look at the reading workshop mini-lessons just for the kinder student and how they change in complexity across the year. Structure, environment, management, and stamina will be the pieces of study to help teachers keep our youngest readers engaged. You'll walk away prepared and confident to implement the smallest part reading workshop within the first week of kindergarten.

This course is designed for all Kinder teacher who want to deepen their understandings of building independent early readers. During our time together, teachers will learn how a lesson grows in complexity across the school year and strategies to bridge the mini-lesson to independent reading. In addition, we will work on how to support children when Meaning, Syntax, and Visual cues are unbalanced.

This course includes 2 mandatory after-school sessions:
October 4, 2018
December 6, 2018

TAKEAWAYS: Teachers will walk away with a few mini-lessons to begin the year, songs, poems, and rhymes to use for growing phonemic awareness, and the confidence to plan intentional daily mini-lessons
