Want to take an advanced long-term course that helps both teachers and students build powerful addition and subtraction understandings? Are you willing to enter a partnership on your campus between an interventionist and a second grade core math teacher? This is an advanced opportunity for elementary interventionists and grade 2 classroom teachers to dive into practical, child-centered methods to support them in helping children think deeply about mathematics. One of the goals of early intervention is to support deep number sense and the development of a repertoire of strategies based on landmark numbers and operations. This partnership will help build relationships between intervention and second grade classroom teachers at the campus level. Interventionists will meet together for district collaborative sessions hosted 4 half days during the school year. Campus partnerships will meet together on campus, and also participate in webinars, Google classroom activities, and hangouts with the entire district cadre. We will engage in a book study, Young Mathematicians at Work - Constructing Number Sense, Addition, and Subtraction, during the year. Each interventionist and 2nd grade teacher will receive a copy of the book. Let’s take this opportunity to join forces to help support our students who struggle with mathematics.
Participants: An interventionist and at least one core math 2nd grade teacher from a campus may join the partnership year-long course. The interventionist agrees to attend 4 half-day sessions throughout the year and share learnings and support back on campus with the classroom teachers. All participants are willing to participate in a book study and other collaborative efforts through Google hangouts, Google classroom activities, and face-to-face meetings on campus.
