We know that a huge part of a Pre-K day is spent playing so we’ll highlight the intersection of literacy and play, This course is designed to support teachers of young readers, writers, and talkers.

You will learn how to plan for read aloud as a cornerstone of your classroom instruction. Presenters will help you consider different types of read aloud across the day in order to augment children’s literacy experiences. A wide range of books will be introduced and you will learn ways read aloud can be used to nurture, engage, and activate children’s minds and emotions.

The course will also address the significance of drawing and writing for a variety of purposes, from sharing stories about the people and places from students’ lives to teaching everything they know about the things they love the most. You can imagine the opportunities for rich language development as children talk, draw, and write.

You’ll hear ideas for monitoring and recording children’s work and ways to use these observations to make adaptations and modifications designed to meet the needs of every child in the room. Listening to children’s talk, observing their interactions with books, materials, and one another can give you a window into their lives and help you plan for their learning with intention and flexibility.
