If you are interested in oracy development activities that provide scaffolds for language development to ensure students are able to use language. Teaching oracy is instrumental to better reading and in particular, writing. In developmental terms, humans acquire oral language first-- a prerequisite for literacy. Participants will walk away with engaging ideas to provide more opportunities to build oracy.

Teachers in bilingual and dual language programs are looking for ways to enhance the development of academic Spanish in their classrooms. They are also looking for ways to increase their own practice of academic Spanish. This training directly addresses those needs. It is based on the research and experience of Dr. Mónica Lara and her work in countless bilingual classrooms. Teachers will explore theory, strategies, and activities in Spanish that develop oracy and biliteracy. This training will be conducted in Spanish."
This course will provide the tools teachers need to hone in on developing the linguistic, academic, social, and cultural needs of your dual language students. You’ll walk away with authentic methods for teaching literacy in English and Spanish, ways to empower students as multilingual, multicultural learners, and a new perspective on advocacy through curriculum. El estudio del dictado is an instructional strategy that later turns into an assessment. El dictado is holistic; it teaches and develops spelling, punctuation, and syntax & grammar (and other word study skills) in a way that is meaningful and comprehensive. The participants will gain knowledge in what a dictado is and how iit is used for different purposes. They will also get to experience el dictado and how to incorporate it into their language arts block.

The Bridge is a stragtegy used to bring the two languages together to encourage students to explore the similiariteis and differences in the phonology, morphology, syntax & grammar, and pragmatics. The Bridge is also the instructional moment when teachers help students connect the content-area knowledge and skills they have learned in one language to the other language.
