During this session, teachers will learn quick strategies for helping students address specific test-taking skills in social studies, especially focused on helping students identify cause/effect relationships. We share tools to help students identify key information in each component of the question, and ultimately increase their confidence as test takers. Additionally, you will leave with fun strategies to provide your students practice analyzing assessment questions, stimuli and answer choices.

SS - 6-12 - Inference in Social Studies

This workshop will give teachers the tools to teach students how to gain a deeper understanding of text and explore cross curricular applications. What role do prior knowledge, assumptions and textual or visual evidence play in creating inferences? We will also look at how to develop questioning skills, including cultivating students’ ability to create their own high-level questions. The presenter will model strategies which teachers can use daily in the classroom to develop inference skills.
