Two-day training in nonviolent crisis intervention. This course covers verbal de-escalation, physical intervention holding skills, and controlling an individual with non-harmful restraints. This course if for staff members who may encounter an acting out individual. The participants will learn verbal de-escalation skills and physical techniques to support students with challenging behavior.
Intensive 4-day training for new and new(er) Functional Communication Classroom teachers. This course will provide intensive training and guided practice using a behavioral approach to teaching communication skills. Teachers will learn to assess student's communication skills and develop an individualized program. The final day of the training will focus on "putting it all together!"
This session will provide special educators with basic information and resources for creating compliant, measurable, and aligned PLAAFPs and goals/objectives.
Middle School and High School teachers of students taking Gen. Ed. and Applied Classes will learn how to use transition assessments, understand what the Student Services Offices at college can offer; what is offered at area community college and technical schools; what are HS Career Prep classes and RRISD 18+ programs and what they offer; how to address study skills, attendance and behavior in transition planning; what state agencies may offer support for these students.
This session will involve basic training to provide special educators with information regarding case management duties, ARD responsibilities, and teacher resources.
Participants will be rotating through mini sessions for basic reading, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Each mini session will include description of disability area, impacts on learning, and classroom strategies to support and engage students.

This course is for MS and HS teachers of FAC/FLC/FCC. Teachers will learn the following information: CBVI - its purpose and benefits to students; using transition assessments; Career Prep and 18+ programs - which students could benefit from them; updates on state agencies that offer support and waiting lists; the importance of including health planning, especially for FLC students; strength-based transition planning; use of the Monday through Friday chart when facilitating transition planning.
This course is for special education staff and assessment personnel who deal with multiple and/or complex behaviors with students. You will learn the ins and outs of defining and understanding behavior, recording and analyzing ABC data, and developing functional hypotheses for behavior(s). You will also learn various function-based interventions to help create effective behavior plans for your students. There will be handouts as well as practice and discussion opportunities throughout the session. Come ready to learn all about the functions of behavior!

Learn how to create customized student goals and objective Google Forms and graphs in Google Spreadsheets to provide useful and easy to see student data.

We will review assessments and what to look for in answering MD questions. As part of the training, we will also review functional implications and what to include in your assessment reports so that all areas of the child's disability are addressed.
Audience: PPCD FCC teachers / FCC teachers / FLC teachers / Play Based Assessment Team The learner will learn how to use the task analysis of the VB-MAPP to assess and teach skills to early learners in the FLC and FCC settings.
This class is specifically for new FAC and FLC teachers, but any FAC/ FLC teacher is welcome. Training in environmental/classroom set up, data collection, visual supports and expectations for the FAC/FLC classrooms.

Audience: FCC / FAC / FLC teachers Teaching students to request wants and desires is an important aspect of language instruction. This session will teach staff how to capture and contrive motivation. Staff will learn how to complete a preference assessment, select target skills and collect mand data.
This course is for elementary teachers of students receiving special education services. Although formal transition planning often does not start until the student is 14, there are many things that elementary teachers need to know to be able to prepare students and their parents for what lies ahead. Teachers will learn which students' parents should access state agencies now (including navigating waiting lists); teachers will learn how to best guide students in self-determination, self-advocacy and independence and how to talk to parents about what they may do at home to promote the same.
Course is designed for LID teachers (FAC and FLC) Instructors will provide reading resources and strategies for students with low cognitive disabilities. A guest speaker from DSACT will also be providing training.
Designed for High School ARD Fac., LSSPs and Dept. Chairs, attendees will gain insight into the SPED Career Prep classes and who should be recommended for them. They will also gain an understanding of the three 18+ programs and what they entail and which students could benefit from each. Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to answer questions that students, teachers and parents have about these courses and programs during transition planning and at annual ARDs.
This course will instruct you on how to use ULS daily in your LID classroom. You will learn how to input students, plan lessons, and use checkpoints and benchmarks to help you collect data for every student.
